i had to call my best friend and tell him. my best friend moved to another state so he had no idea what was going on here.
how can i help him cope with such an aweful thing?

Think about how you would like to be treated if you were in his shoes. Treat him the same way you would want to be treated. Let him know you are there any time he wants to talk. Really listen to his hurt. He will have to go through the stages of grieving over this. Don't take anything personally that he may say. He may say he hates his brother, that's OK. He will be very angry for a while. Let him do this. Be the best friend you can be. I'm glad you are there for him.

Just be there for him. I'm sure he'll need someone to talk to.
