They can be exciting, fun and worth hearing or they can be an absolute bore, it all depends upon the story teller. As far as benefiting from them, the teller is usually the one with the most gratification.

I think most of the time they benefit the story teller. Now, some people do have interesting personal stories that are actually exciting, fun, and worth hearing....but I find it rare. I will say, if you are bored, talking is the one of the easiest ways to pass time, and it usually doesn't matter what it's about as long as time keeps passing.

mixed. you have to know the players. a book, play, movie, etc. only grabs our attention because of the build up. personal stories on the other hand only last five, ten minutes tops. without the personal factor, the story loses appeal. this only applies to regular people telling regular stories. some stories are told by talented story tellers meaning to entertain. ever watched big fish?

Anybody who can tell their story, is worth being heard by another. Stories will vary in excitement and fun, humour and interest, based on the storyteller and the audience. And I believe the story mainly benefits the listener. I love hearing others' stories, and I believe my story is quite compelling to many. I hope I get a chance to get it down on paper before I die.

well i think everyones life story is exciting and has a certain flair to it but if the story is being told to teach other's a lesson then the story hearer will benefit but if it's being told for entertainment then the story teller will benefit since it will make them popular and they'll have everyones attention for awhile until a better story comes along

I think it really depends on the storyteller. A good storyteller with a good point makes all the difference.
