To disrupt or destroy our way of life, to make us sacrifice our freedoms and to make us live in fear.
And they are succeeding at their goals.

I highly advise you to watch a movie called Syriana, it will help you understand the inner workings of the American government and how it controls the governments in the gulf. It also explains one of the reasons for terrorists being after America.
While the terrorist activities might appear religion related because of the terrorists talking about Islam. The main aim is political not religious.
Additionally, I highly advise you to read the following articles from which I will quote the following:
"More important, saying that Israel and the US are united by a shared terrorist threat has the causal relationship backwards: the US has a terrorism problem in good part because it is so closely allied with Israel, not the other way around. Support for Israel is not the only source of anti-American terrorism, but it is an important one, and it makes winning the war on terror more difficult. There is no question that many al-Qaida leaders, including Osama bin Laden, are motivated by Israel’s presence in Jerusalem and the plight of the Palestinians. Unconditional support for Israel makes it easier for extremists to rally popular support and to attract recruits."

There are in any society criminals and mentally unstable aggressive people. Such people will find a way ,and a reason to justify their acts.
If you catch a thief ,the first thing they do is to blame you for not being more careful ,or insulting them ( I've experienced this a few times).
Those that commit violent crimes have underdeveloped empathy . Armies ,some cults and terror groups ,suppress empathy to enable their members to do what they do. I guess experiencing brutality ,and injustice can have the same effect,or make one more vulnerable to those that might wish to use one.
On the spiritual path ,practitioners deliberately develop a sense of desperation ,to focus energy strongly enough to break through social conditioning to deeper perceptions, a kind of psychic death that makes one stronger and less vulnerable to manipulation. But this energy could as easily be misused if applied wrongly.
Essentially ,terrorists want the same as everyone else : freedom ,happiness ,meaning.
Trouble is, its distorted ,by mental weakness,or illness, immaturity, bad guidance, and /or bad circumstances.
We don't need to take their aims seriously, but we do need to avoid aggravating these causes, and alleviate them where they already exist.
Or ,so it seems to me !

I truly believe that they want to instill fear in all of us.. Many of the terrorists are not practicing the Koran or the Muslim faith- they use it as a flag to make their criminal acts seem more legitimate. It would be similar to a street gang carrying out violence in a community and carrying a US flag around.. that is about the best way to equate it. Do they fear the captalist attitudes - no.. they, like so many people, want to be wealthy without having to do anything for it! The US and other capitalist countries just give these thugs a target to hate. I believe we are seeing the "have-nots" rising up against the "haves". Time for serious talking? Who in that lot do you talk to? There are so many splintered groups and spokesmen - even they don't REALLY know who is in charge.

Its kind of odd that you link Muslims and terrorists into one category. Wasn't Timothy McVay a terrorist? He was a Catholic. What about the state of Israel stealing land from the Palestinians and creating a rip in the Middle East. Last time I checked they were Jewish. And what about all those gangs that terrorize LA? Catholics again. Just like it's unfair to call all Catholics homosexual child molestors, it's not fair to point fingers at Islam just because of a few black sheep. I hope your brain has room for some change in your opinions.

i think the terrists evil deeds are a sort of political acts which is supported by the weapons dealers and some countries and some individuals who are afraid of peace which will destroy their very successful trade and those terrosits are being used, especially when their are many conflicts all over the world which haven`t been solved like the palestinian conflict , the irish conflict and others, my idea is that terrorism is not part of any religion but of the pure human demands of living properly , when a person find he has no future no dreams to achieve and has no rights he will either kill himself or start killing others , and both are big sins and with no reasons , but to try to justify his deeds he tries to make it reasoning using any available reason

Terrorists want to kill Americans. They do not believe that people, or whole nations for that matter, should have freedoms that we have. They believe that their beliefs on Islam and the Muslim faith are worth dying for and they believe that Christians should pay the price for not believing the same as them. They have issues with our freedoms and they are killing their own in Iraq who believe they deserve those same freedoms. They are ignorant in their beliefs and the fact that they believe they should kill for "religion" is absolute proof of this ignorance. As a Christian, I believe we must take stand and put God back into our lives. The same principles our country was founded on are the ones that the bible is based upon, but we are allowing the minority to speak for the majority in this country. Islam is not the answer, Jesus Christ is. God Bless our Troops!!!!

Terrorists are a natura;l reaction to globalisation, often known as tribalisation. These men and women see thier lands, people and resources ebing squandered by muti-national coporations and self serving governemnts. To the terrorists, home is everything, and they are willing to fight and die, or send otehrs to die, for it. The problem is recruiting. Oten religionis used as a recruiting power despite the beliefs in equality peace and respect. Religion is easiyl exploited because most people will put blind aith in it. The goal is not to dpread islam, but to fight change and spread disorder and chaos. Thus causing terror and halting global activities.

They want to create terror. Duh. Different terrorists come under different guises, but it's all about creating mayhem and anarchy and scaring the s**t out of people. They're so pissed off about their situation that they'd rather die than make it better, and they're gonna take as many people down with them as they can. They're fundamentally hopeless and they've decided to make themselves criminals to get revenge, but they're also deluded and think that killing people will somehow avenge the wrongs in their lives. If they were merely deluded, or merely angry, they probably wouldn't be terrorists. But they're viciously, murderously angry and totally crazy--fighting terrorism doesn't mean fighting terrorists. It means fighting the situation that spawned terrorism. Which is much harder. But more violence is not the answer to the problem of terrorism. It merely spreads the terrorism further. I guess if you asked a terrorist what they wanted, other than terror, and they wouldn't have a clue. They haven't thought it out that far.

I wish we had the answer so we could solve this problem. I don't think it will ever stop because they are extremist and nothing will satisfy them. I believe this is a problem that want go away because now whenever somebody has an issue, they will incite terror because they are just pissed. It was too much attention given to the acts, the media. I think the US should reconsider their view on targeted assassinations.
