See why American cars get a bad rep? OMG, people...
Seriously Monkey? Buy Japanses and have no trouble? Then explain why I just spent 2 hours towing a Mitsubishi?
Grand Ams are good cars. My wife put 67,000 miles on her '02 with nary a problem. Yes, cars require maintenance, and when not properly maintained they tend to break. This applies to all makes and models.

No, they are not. My step dad is a police officer (well, actually, he is a paramedic deputy sheriff) and has seen many car crashes with Grand Ams where people walk away from them when, if they had been driving something else, they would surly be dead or in the emergency room.

oh God, I'm glad you asked. I have owned two of them...and they were both pieces of crap.
Now, when they were running, they are a great car. But something was always breaking. I should have learned a lesson, but wanted to give them another chance. My mistake. My pontiacs were older than this one you are looking at. I forget the years. Like 93 and 95, or close to those years anyways. The first one had a Quad 4 overhead, and decent pick-up, but grrrr. I don't advise buying a Grand Am.

Not great but certainly better than ANY Peugeot ever made. Resale drops (ever see that Chevy truck commercial, 'like a rock?) like a rock.

Price has crept up in recent years, five-speed not available with V6, cheap interior pieces, iffy crash test scores.

GM cars have not been great in the last few years.
They have been losing money, and tried to cut corners to save money. That results in badly made cars.
