people heartily concur! On St. Andrew's Day, November 30, 1996, the Stone of Destiny was returned to Scotland, exactly seven hundred years after King Edward I of England "carted it off to Westminster Abbey" in 1296. According to one account, "About 10,000 people lined the Royal Mile to watch the procession of dignitaries and troops escort the stone from Holyrood Palace to the castle. In a service at St. Giles Cathedral, the Church of Scotland Moderator, the Right Reverend John MacIndoe, formally accepted the stone's return saying it would 'strengthen the proud distinctiveness of the people of Scotland.'"

It is in Edinburgh Castle, however, it was stolen in the 1950's from westminster. Some believe the stone was replaced by a replica during this time. So, the one in Edinburgh may not be the genuine article and its anybody's guess where the real one is.

It was discovered in a hidden chamber after a landslip on Dunsinane Hill in 1821 and sent to London (natch) for research. They couldn't make anything of it. After that it appears to be have been broken up. Just smashed to bits. Tragic, but true.

I dunno, but I have an imitation-replica of it in my back garden. Last time I saw the real one it was under the seat of the Coronation Chair. Did someone nick it back?
