Put aside the fallacies of Cause-Effect Isomorphism and Function-Origin Isomorphism, and think for a moment about the origin of language. Langauge is a function, the surface manifestation of a capacity, subserved by the human brain.

What do you think caused this singularity to come into existence?

Language is simply applying symbols to represent something else. No matter how anyone answers it is just symbolic of the actually event or thing. Words probably cannot adaquately describe singularity or the way that it came into existence. Futhermore, what anyone thinks is completely irrelevant because it's merely a thought or opinion and hardly representative of the actual event.
Besides, it's more fun to ask How did the Big Bang go bang?

Necessity. I believe it was simply a matter of the need to communicate. I doubt that it was thought of before hand exactly what to say but once some sound or formation of sounds was found to have established a meaning for something it was accepted by those who came up with it. Thus the difference in languages. Some groups found sounds to mean a certain thing while others might have already determined a different sound (or sounds) for the same thing. "Heart" for instance is "Coeur" in French. Now i don't really know who did it first but each one still holds to their original invention. ^_^
