As for me, I don't remember the Sandmeyer reaction utilizing activated charcoal, but I sure do know that activate charcoal is.

Activated charcoal is carbon material that is derived from plant or animal matter and has a high surface area and porosity. It is used mainly for purification purposes, such as in water purification plants to remove bad odors and organic pollutants from the water. The Sandmeyer reaction involves a copper halide reacting with an aromatic diazonium salt to form an aromatic halide. I do not recall activated carbon being involved.
