It's normal for a new momma to be protective. Also, consider that she is operating on much less sleep than she is used to and may snap at things that seem very minor. She should get over it, though, in a couple of months when her baby starts crawling and putting everything in her mouth.

My boy is 7 months. For the first month I was the one paranoid and made everybody disinfect their hands and use fresh towels constantly. Eventually you realize that it's impossible to keep the germs away. The baby has an immune system. Hopefully the baby is getting breast fed so that the immune system is strong.

The baby either had a disease she isn't telling the family about or she is just overly cautious. I have a friend with a healthy older baby who has been anal about baby mouth kisses ever since the child was born. And that kid got sick just as often as my kids so the precaution does no good. I kiss my babies all the time and they're fine. Your sister is probably just a tight a s s and needs to loosen up. But it isn't your place to correct her. She is the mother so just let it slide.

Well most people I know arent that serious about it but when my baby was born I didnt let anyone kiss her because babies have such sensitive skin. My little girl is now 5months and i am still very cautious about who i let kiss her and where. Maybe a peck on the cheek is ok and tickling her toes and feet with ones mouth is ok but a kiss on the lips is a definite no-no!

Yes, its normal. Mouths are very dirty places and infants are VERY suseptible. If someone has a slight cold and kisses the baby or sucks on their fingers or toes (which the baby puts in her mouth) then the baby could get severely ill and even die. Their immune systems are much weaker than adults. It's very important to respect your sister's wishes. She is being a good, protective mother.

This is normal...she's just protecting her baby from germs. when the baby turns about 1 year old, she's sure to relax a little and let people kiss the baby. In the mean time...just respect your sisters wishes and not kiss the baby.

Just because they're family doesn't mean they're clean. We all have germs, and until a baby develops a strong immune system, it's incredibly easy for them to get sick. Possibly with conditions that can land them in the hospital (RSV, pneumonia, viral meningitis, etc.)

My mother in law used to "bite" my older son's fingers. That's friggin disgusting. I don't know what's been in her mouth. Then the baby turns around and sticks his fingers in his own mouth...no. no no no.

Your sister needs help! I mean you all are her family its not like if she doesn't know you! My sister has kids also and I love my little niece sooo much and when she was a little baby and even right now that shes 2 yrs old I'm always kissing her and cuddling her! My sister doesn't mind its completely the opposite with her, she likes it a lot for our family to love her kids that much and play with them too!

I suppose it is normal. Your sister is afraid that the baby will catch bad germs and become sick. She is just being cautious. How about a kiss on the cheek instead?
