The main concern with getting a tattoo during pregnancy is the risk of contracting an infection, such as Hepatitis B and HIV. Although the risk is small, it is recommended that you wait to get a tattoo after your baby is born.

You will be very interested to know that little information is available about the safety of skin dyes used for tattooing during pregnancy. It is possible that the chemicals in the dye may affect the development of the baby during the first 12 weeks, but the risks are unknown, as are any effects on the baby during the remainder of the pregnancy.

The problem will be in the quality of the tattoo. While pregnant the body is working overtime and the tattoo will possibly heal harder and possibly result in a light tattoo. Additionally, while pregnant many women put on extra weight that will come off after the pregnancy. The extra weight will cause the tattoo to be distorted once the weight is lost. While nursing a woman's body produces antibodies that are to be passed to the infant. If tattooed while these extra antibodies are in the system the tattoo may heal harder and possibly result in a light tattoo.

It's not recommended to get tattoos or piercing when you are pregnant since you body is changing so much. The area you get in on might swell before it's healed and mess it up. There is also a small risk of the ink getting into the baby's blood supply, so it's not 100% safe.
Wait until you've delivered. If you are planning on breastfeed, then wait until the baby is weaned.
Small price to pay for this wonderful blessing.

I got a few tattoo's when I was pregnant with my youngest son, and the only thing that happened is the ink did not stay in my skin due to the change in horamones, but, I have a freind that is a tattooiest and owns his own shop and he said if you can't handle the pain of the tattoo it isn't a good idea, cuz it can put stress on the baby and caouse pre- term labor, it is ur choice

Most professional licensed tattoo artists will refuse to tattoo a pregnant woman, because of the risks of infection and what the ink could do to the baby.

You actually can get a tattoo while pregnant.
Problem is, your immune system is not what it should be to fight off infection and heal the way you should.
Your more prone to infections and healing poorly causing you to spend more money to have it fixed.

Your best bet is to wait for 6 months aftr the baby is born, this gives your system to adjust to life without the extra stress caused by expecting a baby, and it gives you a bit of extra time to decide on what licensed artist you want to see.

You will recoup much better if your immune system is functioning fully.

YES YES YES...YOU CAN!! It is only safe until the 5th or 6th (dont push it) month...after that you run the risk of premature labor due to the release of hormones while getting tattooed. We have a very close friend that gives tat's...make sure the needle is brand new...watch them open the package in front of you...also...do what they say about protecting it. use A & D ointment (yeah, diaper rash ointment) it's the best...although there are some new ones you can get online. thing is...keep it clean and protected against bacteria.

I wouldnt risk it. Anytime you are dealing with needles there is always a risk. Plus you will be expanding and gaining weight and your tattoo might look a little odd after you have the baby. Just play it safe and wait until after you have your baby.

i got a tattoo 3 days before i found out that i was 2 months pregnant... my baby is perfect. no one really knows the effects of tattooing on a baby, but the main concern in HIV and of course infection. i did get an infection (don't ever get a tattoo on your foot.. it was not fun) but the doctor gave me antibiotics that were safe to take during my pregnancy.
if i would have known i was pregnant i wouldn't have gotten the tattoo, but nothing bad happened b/c of it.. so it's really up to you..

Tattoos can get infected quite easily. Any illness during pregnancy is bad, as it can be transferred to your baby. Spend the money on the baby!

It is not safe for you to get a tattoo while you are pregnant. If you go to a good tattoo place they will not even allow it.
