New York is the place to study acting, but after studying it's probably better to be in California.

It depends on what type of acting. screen acting would be cali and stage would be New York, but i am a firm believer that before you venture to those places, you should first find a smaller theatre district to apprentice in. I live in Houston, and we have a very very nice theatre district with a lot of opportunity for actors/stagehands/costumers/directors etc. get a good base in the art somewhere else before running off to new york.

The basics of acting are the same in theatre, film and tv, the best rainign ground is on the east coast, but not limited ot NYC. FSU has an excellent program, Yale is one of the best anywhere, but no matter which coast you choose, you will need to continue your training for many years past college. Both coasts have good acting studios and classes, some getting very specific.
Also do not neglect, movement courses, vocal training, stage combat, etc etc etc

I would study wherever you are at the moment. Go to an airport or hospital. How do people really move their bodies and faces when emotion hits them. Then go to New York. While you save a small fortune to do that, take any classes offered where you are right now.

If you want to become a broadway star, id go with New York but if youre aiming for the big screen, California

Depend what you like, if you like theater and professionalism, study in New york, If you like cameras and having sex with producers to get the top, study in California.

New York is mostly theater
L.A and Cali are a lot of film/tv
That's not to say that there aren't really good classes for both in either city.

California. It is sunny. You can start studying here at ISOMADA a school for artist. A highschool. Then you can fly to new york for college.

Study in NY. Go look for work in Cali. By the time you get your degree and pay your Equity dues, you'll be ready for a break from NY.

You should look into AMDA. It's a performing arts college with locations in both NY and CA. If you want to do movies/TV you go to the LA one, if you want to do stage, NY. If you decide to switch directions, I'm pretty sure you can transfer from coast to coast.
