I was wondering why Google doesn't pick up/recognize all incoming/inbound links to another Website, as other search engines like Yahoo and MSN, do? This is a question about link popularity building as part of an SEO strategy.

It does pick them up but chooses not to display them all with the link: command, for commercial reasons. Basically the link: command in Google shows only a sample of the links it knows about and is therefore completely useless.

The most reliable is Yahoo Search with the command linkdomain:yourdomain.com -site:yourdomain.com

I bet it will as long as the page linked from isn't orphaned (ie has no inbound links) itself. However I don't think any of the engines will give you a complete listing of your backlinks. Google certainly doesn't.

Every engine has it's own method an so does Google. People focus too much on quanity when they should be worried about quality.

Ask Google. Give them a call.
