Not sure what year but I think there were 3 people credited with the invention. At least there were three people on the patent.

Bradeen, Shockey and someone else.

Shockly led a small team at Bell labs in the late 40's. He won the nobel prize for his work, one of many Bell Labs scientists to win one.
