Prairie wetlands are breeding grounds for thousands of ducks. Expansion of agricultural land has decreased the number of prairie ponds. Environment Canada states that 40% of the wetlands have been eliminated and it estimates a 1% to 2% decrease per year.

How does the decrease in numbers of ponds affect the coyotes and foxes.

The number of ducks will decrease which will lead to some of the predatory animals dying until a new equilibrium point is established. At some point of steady decreases though, the higher ups on the food chain lose critical mass and run the risk of becoming extinct, locally if not at a larger scale.

It messes with the food chain. Coyotes and foxes eat the ducks. When there's no food, the top predators start starving to death.

Environment Canada will alter the statistics to fit their need. Actually agricultural land is decreasing.
