Prom is a school dance. Usually the school has a prom for the students during the last year of high school. It is usually a fancy party where people dance and the girls wear formal dresses and the boys wear tuxedos. The age is usually 16, 17, 18. There are always adults around watching the kids to make sure they do not get too crazy, It is very interesting it is fun for the students, usually it is the last time they will have a get together with all of their friends before they graduate.
You probably have heard some bad things about prom like drinking and sex, but usually these kinds of crazy things happen AFTER prom when the kids go to each others houses or hotels, and usually it is the wild kids.
My advice to you is if your child wants to go to prom, let them, you can drop them off and pick them up if you feel unsure. JUst make sure they can stay long enough to have fun. And don't let them go anywhere after prom except righ to the prom. They will love you for the opportunity to experience this event.

Prom is a high school party where the boys rent expensive tuxedos and the girls buy expensive dresses and they all show up at the party and dance together. Or if you can't dance like me, you stand around together. Some people have a lot of fun. I personally did not.
On prom day, boys try to fit their tuxedos. Girls do their makeup all day waiting for the big night.

It's a big dance at night , at the end of the school year. It's for high school students or older only. It's mainly for seniors and juniors, but if sophomores or freshmen get asked by seniors or juniors, then they can go. boys usually ask girls to them and they go as dates. they are usually completely free, unless their parents are completely strict and stubborn. It's very fun and exciting! it's one last chance to just hang out with everyone before school lets out for the summer. Parents are usually happy or sad. their usually happy because their children are about to go out and have the time of their life! but their also sad because when a child goes to prom...that usually means their child is growing up and about to go to college.
