I dont think so. I do belive emo is one of the many subgenres of rock, but emo and rock are not the same thing. Emo is, or, actually, was emotive/emotional hardcore that derived sometime in the 80s, and in time it has changed a lot. Emo is not considered to be hardcore anymore since most people are under the impression that bands like Dashboard are emo. So emo now doesnt sound hardcore at all, it's calm, mellow music with no screaming and very emotional lyrics. Of course, recently, that has all changed also thanks to bands like Fall Out Boy and Panic! At The Disco. Little kids now believe that those two bands I just mentioned are "emo", and I always thought Fall Out Boy fell under the "punk" genre, but oh well, and Panic just sucks ***. Sigh, stupid little kids have everything all wrong.
Well, that's my take on it. I hope it helps some.
