Yes, you're referring to the attack on the USS Liberty back in 1967, when Israel attacked and sank a US electronic collection ship. Israel claimed it was an accident, that they had mistaken our ship for an egyptian craft.
The fact is, one attack like this isn't going to break off an alliance. If you think about it, worse things have happened between non-allied nations and didn't lead to war. Look at the downing of Korean KAL flight by the Soviets or the US shootdown of an Iranian Airlines flight, or the attack on the USS Stark. None of these attacks led to war, as all were deemed to be accidents.

I would find out who is responsible and round them up. Put them in jail everything that we should do. I would not invade Russia if I was attacked by China. Just an example :)
If we were attacked by another government I would conceder it a act of war. If it was terrorist I would find the terrorist a kill them or put them in jail what ever comes first.

If I were president I guess I'd have to check to see how much the country gave to my party's campaign fund and then act accordingly.
This seems to be the political norm in this country anyway.

I would attack and sink 100 enemy ships..if doesn't have that many I would sink them all.
Then I would send a note saying any more attacks will be met with ballistic missles...this is their last warning

Whom did they attack? What country? Was it one of our enemies or was it us? There are other factors that would go into making a decision other than just "would you support them or not." What would we gain by helping our allies? Why did they attack? Your question is rather vague.
