Well first of all chances are the disposal itself is not where the clog is. If you are a handyman, get something to catch the water and undo the drain pipes. Most probably the restriction is where the garbage disposal pipe meets the main drain pipe under the sink. If that is clear check the p-trap.
If that two is clear get some Liquid Plumber. If that does not work it is time to call in the professionals.

I have a great disposer, but I can still clog it with a bit of effort. I just plug the other sink bay tightly with a stopper, get plenty of water in the disposer, turn it on and take the plunger to the drain above it. It ususally pops loose in short order.

Try using a plunger first, then once it's clear, run the disposal with hot water running into it for a few minutes to clear any remaining material. Don't use chemical drain cleaners in a disposal - they will destroy the motor seal and allow water to leak into the motor.

Usually it is not a clog in the actual disposer, but in the drain pipes. Simply unhook the pipes with a bucket for catching the water underneath and you will find the clog!

Use the Allen wrench that was included when you bought the disposal. It always works for me. If you lost yours, buy one they are only about $1.00 or so and tape it under the sink for future use. It looks like a thin metal "L".
