David Beckham is still one of the great footballers of all time. Recently though I truly believe he has lost his 'hunger' to prove himself and has settled into a mediocre position feeding others (which he does very well) and only occasionally going for gold (as it were) When you are mega rich like Beckham the hunger for success dwindles and so does the drive. Living like they do, able to afford anything and be worshipped by so many is it any wonder the drive has gone...
Now Roonie is there. He has the drive and determination and does not go down like a skittle the second he is tapped by an opposing team member. He bulldozes through them because he can... he has the drive and determination... but unfortunately he has not yet conquered his temper...
All in all I will be sad to see Beckham go but England have a plethera of fresh talent that will drive us to future success... Lets look forward with anticipation to euro 08 and the 2010 world cup :o)

!! come on England... your country expects !!

no hes not and this decesion leaving him out of the england squad is a joke.hes been the best england player for the last decade and saved england on many occasions with his free kicks crosses etc.this is just mcclaren using beckham as a scapegoat for england s poor form in the world cup.i know david beckham isint the quickest or the most skillfull but hes still the best crosser in the world and one of the best dead ball specialists around.this decesion could backfire on mcclaren leaving beckham out only time will tell!!!

He can be picked if he wanted to be picked, it's his decision. That's not good for football. A player does not have to call the shorts just because he has money and can do whatever he wants. If the country needs the services of a particular player, that player must avail himself no matter what.

The country should come first. But nowadays things are very different.

He will be playing in Euro 08. England is testing out some new players to see if they can cut it or not. Beckham is still good. For crying out lound, he is the reason they made it as far as they did in the World Cup.

far too overated, no left foot, inabilty to take anyone on or score a penalty, 1 out of every 15-20 free kicks actually hits the target!!!!
maclaren is showing that he will pick players on form not media attention like erickson!
hopefully with a proper leader like terry we might now stand a chance, and for godsake give SWP a chance

Not yet. He's a very fit player and still has a good couple of years left at the highest level. And besides, you never lose your ability. He still has lots to offer, just Steve McClaren has decided that there are younger players in his squad who deserve a chance.

He's on the decline, but it doesn't mean he won't be picked for England. He would only not be picked if he's injured or unavailable.
