very carefully. ha ha.

common denominator. you need to get the LCD (but you can acutally use any common denominator if you simplify thereafter.)

the denominator being the number on the bottom.

8/3 + 16/6 =

8/3 = 16/6 i got this by simply doubling both the top and the bottom numbers. now i can use my 16/6 in place of my original 8/3
so 8/3 +16/6 = 16/6 + 16/6

now all you do is add the top numbers. 16+16=32
16/6+16/6=32/6

from here, your mean 'ole math teacher will probably want you to simplify...divide this to get it into lowest terms or a mixed number.

mixed number is how many times your (higher) top number divides into your smaller (bottom) number. 5 and the remainder left as a common fraction 32/6 = 5 1/3

OR leave it as an improper fraction with the higher number on top and simply reduce the terms to a prime factor on bottom.

32/6 = 16/3

You need to change the fractions to have the same denominator first.

16/6 + 16/6 = 32/6

Usually in school, you are asked to simplify the result, giving 16/3

yep u have to have the same bottom #. u get it from multiplying asmany time to get the bottom number the sign........on the fraction where u change the bottom number also do 2 the top.

example: 8/3
*
2
-----------
16/6
okay now put them in line with the promblem and solve

multiplying fraction is the easiest to me....u simply just flip the second fraction up side down and then multiply
