The Perseid meteor shower is at its peak these next couple of nights, and I'd really like to find a really good spot to view them. Anyone know a good place, far away from lights and cars in the Sacramento, CA area?

Lake Berryessa gets much darker skies than Folsom Lake. If you are willing though.......omg, East Park Resevoir is fabulous........no lights anywhere around it. Its about 75 miles from Woodland but worth the drive......its kind of hard to get campsites at Berryessa this time of year but going up in the evening and just stopping at any of the pull outs on the road if fabulous too. Shoot, guess I ought to head up this weekend after all........haven't watched it for a few years with my monsters!

You have to get out of town, does not matter much which way you go.
Also, with the moon up, if the night is not CRYSTAL clear the viewing won't be nearly as good as it might be; that moonlight will brighten any haze a good deal. My recommendation is to make some effort, but save your big meteor shower watching effort for a more favorable moon/meteor shower combo.

We go to the outskirts of Davis.LAst night we drove up I-80 to Colfax and pulled off the road. But the viewing really wasn't so great, and our truck got stuck in the dirt! So tonight which I believe is the peak of the shower , we are probably going to a spot we've been to before that is past Davis, but dark enough and flat enouhg to be able to lay down and watch the sky.

I live in Fremont was told to find the highest point away from light to view. Good Luck!!!
