We will also be moving to Fairbanks, in October. We were there this past summer too. We had alot of fun. We went to Chena Hot Springs, awesome being in the water, shocked at how huge the mosquitoes are. We drove to Denali National Park, did the river rafting. Denali Town actually closes down Sept to May, too cold they said. We went to the North Pole (which happens to be south of Fairbanks, go figure) Saw Santa, Mrs Claus and the raindeer. All these things can also be done in the winter except the river rafting. They have a huge Ice Carving contest, dog sledding and ice fishing, which is what I'm really interested in seeing this winter. The town itself isnt that interesting. Kinda dirty. No major shopping malls. Seems Wal-Mart gets the most traffic. But, the local people are generally friendly and helpful. The natives are shy and dont co-mingle too much. Renting an appartment is a bit of a chore. The single family home rentals arent well kept, and most of the appartment buildings dont have washer/dryers in the units. Covered parking is hard to get and expensive. There are alot of great places to eat. We especially liked the Sunday Brunch for $18 at the Pump House. Hope this helps...You can ask me for more information if you want....Take care

-sixty two! No way! i'm in sunny Southern California, and while the temps get under 60 i'm complaining that is too chilly, or above 75 i'm complaining that is too warm. i comprehend that persons adapt to their ecosystem, yet Alaska is probable too chilly for me. Years in the past I had a md that spent 0.5 of the twelve months in Alaska for company, and while he might come back to California (interior the wintry climate) he might walk around in shorts and a tank stunning while the temps have been interior the 50s and ***** relating to the warmth! wish this enables. good success.
