I have an enclosed lower patio and wish to keep the existing compacted gravel over the majority of its surface, but after heavy rainfall the water sits in a pool before draining after a few minutes.
Any suggestions to improve drainage? Thanks

If you don't mind some shovel work, you can install a drain that works with plastic corrugated field tile (pipe). This will work so long as you can run the tile to a lower elevation.

Add larger sized stone that will go down firm, but not into a solid impermeable pad. This will serve several points here, it will raise the level a little, and also with bigger stone, airspace will remain between the stones, allowing more water to drain through.

Maybe worthwhile if it is a solid pad, to get some holes into it before laying more stone, so the water will drain to somewhere.

slope the patio slightly towards the garden or if its totally enclosed towards a drain at one end away from your house
