UN is too weak. Fiscally, morally and militarily.

The UN only has the authority and force available that its member nations contribute.

With the US doing it's own thing, and no other global superpowers except China (who is also doing its own thing), the UN doesn't have a lot of resources to work with.

It's role should not be enforcing international law anyway. It's role should be mediating and helping countries to resolve disputes. Because that's something it can effectively do whether it has enforcement powers or not.

It is a pretty weak organization. It is starting to go the rout of the league of nations circa WW1. World War II happened because of the failure of the league of nations to put teeth into the peace agreements. I think maybe it is time for a world government with a very clear cut set of rules, and penalties for violations

yes it is indeed weak. However, I think creating a world government is an impossibility. Unfortunately we are living in a realist world wherin states constantly struggle for power and accept anarchic state system. But who knows?

Yes. Look at the job they are doing in stopping Iran more trying to creat a nuke. Also, committes like the human rights committe is made up mostly of muslim nations, whose people blow themselves up to kill jews, and african nations, where mass genocide is going on. China is on the human rights committee, along with cuba, Suban, saudi arabia, Zimbabwe, and lots more. The whole un idea is great, but its being poorly implemented. here are two articles about it.

The UN couldn't enforce a "no making out in study hall" rule.

That's very difficult because it would depend who controls such a government. The UN is too weak indeed but that's only because the members and especially those on the security council make them weak.

We need to do SOMETHING. The UN is too weak to do anything that requires thinking.
