To me, "freedom fighters" refers to people like Gandhi and Martin Luther King who "fight for freedom" without killing or injuring or directing hatred/violence at any civiilians irrespective of their race or nationality. You don't have to fight with violence. Both Gandhi and MLK achieved their objectives through non violent protest, whereas the IRA tried killing civillians and it got them nowhere. Ireland is still not united is it? They just turned many people against them who might have otherwise sympathised and supported their cause.
Noone who targets unarmed civillians including women and children can be called a "freedom fighter" or anything more than a murdering terrorist. If the IRA or Al Quaida want to fight soldiers with guns - soldier to soldier - thats one thing, at least its a fair fight. But exploding a bomb in a shopping centre full of women and kids is just evil and deplorable!!! How does that make anyone "free"? Its bully tactics. Picking on the weak. It just generates more hatred and achieves NOTHING for their "cause".
Its pointless asking this question really. All the lefties and muslims will say freedom fighters (whether they would agree if these terrorists blew up THEIR loved ones remains to be seen) and the sane people who are horrified by the idea of slaughtering innocent civvies call them terrorists.
You can talk about Bush and Blair and Israel all you like but two wrongs do NOT make a right. Just because Israel is bombing civvies in Lebanon does NOT make it "OK" to bomb civvies in other countries. Whats so hard to understand about that?
I call them terrorists and murderers.
Unless Islam can produce a character like Gandhi or MLK who will "fight" through non violence and leadership and humanity then the terrorists will waste their lives (and those of their victims) for nothing.

The difference is very simple; if they're targeting primarily military, they can be seen as freedom fighters. If they go after civilians first and foremost, they are terrorists.
'Terrorists' are those who look to instill a sense of 'terror' in the general population as a means of causing pressure upon political leaders.
They are, by definition, desperate, as they know they are outnumbered and outequipped and would get annihilated in a straight-up fight with a sovereign military force.
Good day.

Since nothing is actually being released, I have no personal opinion.
However, if they were freedom fighters, why attempt to blow up planes of innocent people? Now, I believe in innocent until proven guilty, but if the police, etc. are correct in their plans, they were just planning to use fear to control people. That, imo, is what a terrorist is all about. Freedom fighting would entail actually fighting against the oppressors, not killing random innocents.

I know there's the old saying that one man's terrorist is another's freedom fighter, but I don't think they can be called freedom fighters, since what are they fighting to free themselves from?
To be a freedom fighter, you have to be an oppressed minority, with no place to go or no official voice. But in the USA and Britain you can be officially represented. You have freedom, and peaceful avenues to air your grievances.
In fact by doing this, they're inviting prejudice, and oppression. Sadly they're taking freedom away from the vast billions of peaceful Muslims with whom they choose to associate themselves with. But that association to Islam that they claim is not welcomed by the billions of true Muslims and by doing this they are in fact drowning out the voices of true Muslims with the louder volume of their extreme actions.

They are terrorists! Freedom fighters are people who stand up for what they believe in, but they do it face-to-face with their enemies. Terrorists are cowards who boldly kill innocent men, women and children who aren't even given a choice or chance of fighting back.

i figure you only have the right to be called a freedom fighter if you are oppressed in your own country and your culture is being suppressed , as great Britain is a christian , northern European country with a history and culture that has developed over a thousand years ! and the bombers are first and second generation economic immigrants ,they are fighting to change and suppress the rights of the indigenous majority , a holy jihad should be confined to Islamic countries ,so therefore they are terrorists

As they're not judged yet, they're merely suspects.
But your question is: people who want to reach their political goal by inflicting death and terror on the weak spot of leaders of democratic countries whom are killing thousands of innocent people and reducing millions to sheer poverty and insecurity, in the above mentioned people's far away countries? Well I wouldn't know. The French resistance blew up German trains, unregarded whether civilians were on board, Serbs cleant whole villages, Obesango deports thousands, Mugabe chases hundreds of families out of the country, Indians still perish in reserves, sweetened by alcohol, like their faith mates down under...
What you all feel today, is exactly what people in Iraq, Palestine, Israel, Sri Lanka, Laos and Lebanon have been feeling for years...FEAR. Like Bob Dylan once sang: "How does it feel?"
But hel' yeah, killing civilians in order to scare is terrorism. In fact, they already succeeded in scaring us...
And look, everybody here is apologising and outing himself as non muslim whenever he tries to make a stand which doesn't concord with the wish of "kicking them all out"...
