Irony is a sarcastic remark. It implies the opposite of what is said, the event or the situation the opposition of that expected. For example: Suppose your cousin scored very less marks in Mathematics, if you say to her 'what a fine performance '. I hope you understand now. You create situations like this, give many more such examples and make her understand the situations when irony is used. Please take care all the irony should not be related to her. Educational psychology prohibits such remarks on younger ones. It hurts their ego.

Irony is very simple. It's when the thing you would least expect to happen at a given time actually happens. Usually with kids, though, you need to give an example. A simple example of something being ironic would be "Suzy is going to the circus. Suzy loves elephants. On the way to the circus, Suzy sees a car that has a giant elephant on top of it." Or something like that. Children are not really capable of abstract thought on that level but you can at least give her an idea what irony is.

Don't let her listen to "Ironic" by Alanis Morrissette since the only thing ironic about the song is that it contains no irony.
