3: Cracking your knuckles will cause arthritis in later life.
__ True ___ False ____ Maybe
ANSWER: False. Depending on your point of view, knuckle-popping sounds disgusting or cool. There is no evidence that cracking your knuckles inflames the joints and leads to arthritis. The cracking causes the bones to pull apart, forming a gas bubble and breaking the adhesive seal in the joint. Crack! About a quarter of the people in the U.S. crack their knuckles and might begin to lose their grip a little. Constant cracking can weaken the fingers.

Popping your knuckles is good in moderation. It does release air trapped in the joints, the pain you feel is actually pressure from that gas.
Sometimes having joints pop is something you cannot control, my knees will pop extremely loudly when I bend into a squatting position... that is not dangerous.
What you should be aware of is cracking your knuckles too much, as it can cause cartilage damage, if you crack your knuckles only when they hurt this is not much of an issue. Also if you start to feel a crunch in your joints as you pop them see a doctor to be on the safe side.
Don't give up playing your intruments though!

Many doctors feel that the popping sound may be caused by displacing air around the joint and it has never been shown to cause damage at any time...not now and not later in life. Knuckle cracking is not associated with arthritis.

I do it all the time. Yeah, I heard it can give you arthritis and all, but, there a people out there who have arthritis and they never cracked their knuckles. So, what does that tell you? Either way, we will eventually all get arthritis and have to live through it; some worse then others. Thank God there are Excedrins and Advils and such that can help eliminate or help ease the pain of having to go through that. There are even creams out there for that.

i pop my knuckles sometimes but very rarely, about 8 years ago a friend of mine popped her knuckles and air got trapped inside and made her whole arm swell up and she had to have surgery and all this. i guess when you pop your knuckles it is forcing some type of air out of them carbon dioxide i think, and getting oxygen in them is bad...i am not 100% sure on that but, i know she was in the hospital for a week due to popping her knuckles

I do the same thing. I think it isn't good though.
Make sure you drink enough water during the day because I know my knuckles hurt when I haven't had enough water. Or maybe try getting one of those magnet braceletes.
I hope I helped and good luck!
