Build a scale model of the solar system. At the fair have a big big big ball for the Sun. The have pictures of the other planets with the correct size balls from around town to show how far away they really are. Use a three foot ball for the sun so Pluto is miles away and the size of a pea.

Do a search concerning the "Sterling Steam Engine". It is a simple device that can be made out of a tin can. It runs on either heat or cold potential difference (like a cup of coffee, or ice cube). I'm sure you could make one.
