I'm not much of a fan of modern country, but I enjoy a lot of the classic (Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, June Carter Cash, Merle Haggard ect) country before the 80's. I especially enjoyed the 'Western' stuff. It allways made me think of the Wild West of the 1800's. Are there any modern bands that play the good old 'Western' style any more?

They got rid of "Country" in country music all together....there isnt a such thing as " COUNTRY MUSIC" anymore....now all you have to do to be a country singer....as Merle Haggard said...tight blues jeans, and look good, DONT have to be able to sing at all, country music is a thing of the past...:(

Pop is where the money is. So there has been a move away from traditional CW to more of a Pop Country sound. Shania Twain really put the final nail in the coffin for Western with her pop sound. And that opened the flood gates for all of the Faith Hills, etc. to follow. Artists like Loretta Lynn are still doing traditional country western but it's not where the action is these days.

"What kind of music do they play here?"
"Both kinds, Country and Western."
