For the record, I'm on a local university computer in a lab. I am getting a blue, crash screen, saying that "a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage." This is on my Dell, for the record. It tells me to go into safe mode and deal with the problem that way.....but when I do that, it scrolls and brings me back to the blue screen again.

Should I call Dell Tech support or what? I'm not sure what to do now.

It isn't the blue screen of death.

Can this be covered by my Dell 3 yr. warranty?

Mainstrike, I did that.....but every time I go into safemode, it will scroll in some unintelligible language and then go back to the BSOD again.

Yes, it's tech support time. When this happened to my girlfriend, she had to replace the hard drive. It's also possible that the computer is overheating, or that something else may be wrong with the processor. You'll probably have to have it serviced, but call Dell support first.

The BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death) always has a bunch of numbers at the top of the screen, along with some text. You need to search on the Internet for that STOP error to help you remedy the situation.

When you restart, ensure you are in Safe Mode by hitting F8 mercilessly at startup and selecting safe mode when asked.

that blue screen means that you have installed a software or hardware the wrong way. so uninstall any new sofwares you have installed on you computer, and install them again. same goes for the hardware.
(and also, ake sure you have windows updated, like open internet exploer, and under "help" click on windows update)

good luck.

I would think it is an operatig system problem if you can' get in to safe mode have you tried inserting the install disk boot from it and do a system restore from there. take care

You should. There is an error accuring in the program. If this keep happening you have to reinstall some program. Or worse, reformat your harddrive.

Good luck.
