here at the fire dept, we sometimes get free food from companies that "show their gratitude". It's usually expired, and we found out that whatever comes here, has been rejected by people in prison. I know this isn't the most important issue..it just irks me.

I'm sorry if I gave you all the wrong view, I am not a firefighter, I work at Fire IT, doing computers, but they do give the firefighters the same things that we do, the same process too.

Really?! Seriously?!That is totally crappy! You guys put your lives on the line for people and save lives for Christ's sake.....they should be serving you steak and lobster as far as I'm concerned.......I'm very sorry to hear this.....wow...it irks me too! As a side note...my step-dad is diabetic and has had several severe reactions in the past year, and the guys at the fire dept. have saved his life a few times.....he regularly takes food and treats to them to show his gratitude...w/o them he wouldn't be alive - just wanted to let you know that there are people out there that appreciate what you do! Take care

Dude, do you work as a fire fighter for the military? The only entity that I know that will give away food that is marked " Rejected, Federal Prison System. Not suitable for human consumption" was the military. I guess they can give you anything due to the fact that they own your butt for the duration of your contract. The last thing you want to hear when you are on deployment is the following: Congratulations, guys. We are have Top Sirloin steaks for dinner. Oh, by the way..... you guys were chosen for extended deployment. ( of the subject, I know. )

Sounds really weird. No one should be giving away expired food - especially to people who may have to save their life the next day.
Wouldn't that be poetic justice - if someone who gave you old food were unable to get emergency help because the entire fire department had food poisoning?

Yes, that is rather low of companies dumping off expired food stuff, especially to the fire department. It's insulting. Does your town or city hall know about this?

HOW RUDE! If you were part of my local fire department, I would bring you some fresh baked cookies. From FRESH ingredients! I do that here, well, I haven't in a yearor so. But I do appreciate my local services enough not to hand off something that is expired! Shame on them!

The proper thing to do is smile, thank them and then when they leave, toss it and remind yourself that:
It's the thought that counts.......
some people give what they can because they can't afford to do any better but some don't show any gratitude at all and just take you for granted...which do you prefer?
God Bless you!! and thank you for what you do for people :-)

Why would they want to give people bad food? Especially people who saves lives. I'm so sorry that it happens to you.
