i was told by my doctor to stay away from the estrogen hormone, because of the history of breast cancer in my family. my options are the depo,in which i heard alot of negative things about such as it weakening the bones, the mini pill which could cause pregnancys to occur outside the uterus or the minera(iuc) something like a iud. but, then this gives you a greater risk of pelvic infection which could cause death if severe. i was going to go on this but i thought what if my boyfriend were to cheat on me or something , it would put me at a high risk. its to scary. what do you think i should do? i would like to take the mini pill. what do suggest?

do NOT use the IUD if there's any chance that your boyfriend will cheat on you or that you will be interested in having multiple partners... if you do, make sure you use a condom. the risk of infection from STD's w/ an IUD is much higher which can lead to infertility and permanent damage - def. not worth it.

i had depo for a while and actually really loved it. it can affect bone density but you recover once you stop using it and the effects can be lessened by taking calcium. unfortunately, depo affects people differently - it's a lot of hormone at once so people can have adverse reactions (i stopped b/c of weight gain, but not everyone experiences that). also, it's not a permanent solution b/c dr.s dont like you to be on it for more than a few years.

mini pills are actually just a good as regular pills IF you take them PERFECTLY. same time, every day, don't forget. if you're not super-responsible about remembering to take them at the same time, use a condom too. (if you hate condoms, try VCFs - vaginal contraceptive film - you can find them at the drugstore and they are like small sheets of spermicide you insert before sex).

you might also ask your dr. about nuvaring which IS estrogen based, but is very low-dosage.

If you don't want to take anything internally then your only options are external devices. Condoms, creams, and foams are your best choices. Otherwise I would suggest the mini pill...keep in mind the chances of negative things occuring are very very low. Even if you were to get a pelvic infection you would be aware of changes in your body before while it's happening. All you would have to do is go to a local clinic for help. It's not like you would die on the spot...Try the mini pill for a week and see how you like it....low dose stuff is always the best.

If you are afraid of all of the above then there are only three options.

1. Condoms (Which don't work for quite a few cases
2. Abstinence (Which didn't work for a girl named Mary)
3. Become a lesbian (Which works until you get out the turkey baster)

Good luck.. the timer starts now!

I don't know if this will help, my OB had told me that the depo, does weaken the bones, but as soon as you get off of it and you decide to have a baby, your bones automatically strengthen afterwards. So it's not permanent, you can restore it. I personally like the depo. It worked for me.

Non. I was on it for a yr and gained 50lbs in a month. I lost all the weight, but still, it was painful being on it. Birth Control just manipulates your body. And if you want children in the future, it will may become hard to conceive.

Pulling out is the best. Also, I like to keep a pez dispenser full of morning after pills by my bed, so that way when the woman leaves in the morning, she can snag one and be fine..Everyone wins! I hope this was helpful.

condoms.

after years on the pill i decided to quit it because of the risks and side effects, which include dryness and loss of libido. my partner of 3 years agrees that this is the best and most spontaneous method. (dryness made it seem very clinical)
