Bush illegally invades two middle eastern countries, and threatens Iran and Syria. There is no proof that Iraq had anything to do with 9/11. Oil speculators get nervous. The price of crude skyrockets. Chavez closes off oil shipments to US Citgo facilities. Now this Alaska news.
Clinton: $1.50/gallon
Bush: $3/gallon and climbing.
It's alomst like a supreme effort is being made to squeeze the US oil consumer for every last penny of profit, like we're being conditioned for something...
Anyone else see a pattern here?
Anyone think the invasion of Iraq was not about oil?
BTW, freeing the oppressed civilians of Iraq was a result of our invasion, not a reason given before we did it.
Civil remarks with facts and cites appreciated.

Cindy L:
You inadvertantly made my point for me. One of the things I think the US public is being conditioned for is to allow unrestricted drilling for oil in places currently unavailable, like ANWR. Thank you

Cindy above.........
Either you are full of crap, or completely ignorant.
"Bush had the backing of the world, the UN AND Congress to go into Iraq."
The only idiot who walked out of the last U.N. meeting claiming he had "backing" was the U.S. rep.
Every other U.N. member except britain explicity said NO.
Why do you think Colin Powell told Bush "sir you will lose" when he wanted Powell to go for a new resolution authorizing invasion.
There are lies, and there are Damned lies.
Stop telling damn lies.
As far as the backing of "the world", I won't even comment.
Its just too stupid of a comment.
-----
Cindy, funny how you narrowed your rhetoric down to just "congress" now. Even with that chicknsht tactic, i don't remember congress saying that Bush could unilaterally attack Iraq on his own whims. I believe it was predicated on a imminent threat like the ones that the U.N. Inspectors dismissed?

Well for starters, these prices aren't just squeezing the US oil consumers. The $75 per barrel oil price applies worldwide. And the USA has among the lowest gasoline prices of any country that does not subsidize their gasoline (like Venezualia and Kuwait) so your theory that US consumers are being conditioned doesn't make much sense.
That being said, I think these oil prices are awful. If only taxes on oil had been higher back when oil was between $10 - $20 we might've had the economic impetus to have developed some alternatives. As it stands now, even with the high oil prices, the threat that they might someday drop back down to lower levels impedes investment in alternative energy technology.

It is funny how anytime there is a shutdown of a pipeline, a facility fire or anything that affects the production or transport of oil raises the price even if it is for a relatively short period of time. This never happened as I was growing up in the 60s and 70s. Yes, we are being ripped off by the oil companies who use any excuse to raise their prices on us. Their goal is $4 a gallon by November 2006.

Cindy is an idiot.
I think the real issue here is BP total lack of corporate responsibility.
They made 7 billion dollars profit last quarter. Yet they deferred maintenance on the pipeline, even though they were aware of the problems. Do not forget the oil spill last March. If you compare what they spent on maintenance to the profit it works out to something like 1/4 of one penny per dollar.
The current administration screams about less regulations, but this is what happens when companies are allowed to police themselves.
The state of Alaska may very well go broke in a couple on months because of this, then not only are we going to pay at the pump, but also out of tax dollars to keep the state afloat.

Actually freeing the oppressed civilians of Iraq was even stated in the Congressional Statement Authorizing the use of force before the war.
Also, it is a coincidence. Do you think BP would close their fields with gas prices where they are right now??? No they want to pump it and sell it rapidly.

Pattern? What KIND of pattern? How can you honestly compare prices from different decades. The price of gas when I was a kid was .15 cents a gallon. AND it was leaded. Comparing prices is not a way to get your ludicrous idea across. That said, we still pay LESS for gas then EU does.
And no, the "invasion" of Iraq is NOT about the OIL>don't you libs ever get tired of that mantra?
You BLAME GWB for everything. I've seen some people respond with civility and fact and you just ignore that and call them "idiots"
YOU give US YOUR facts that supports YOUR statement. You can't. You are just spewing your tripe and shouting your hatred for the current President.

Bush had the backing of the world, the UN AND Congress to go into Iraq.
Prices Rise. That is a fact of life. Think about what a house or a loaf of bread cost when Clinton was president. (Clinton also gave us the LARGEST tax INCREASE in history, he taxed the middle income people to death)
Gas prices are raised by commodity traders, NOT the oil companies. If the oil companies were allowed to drill for more oil, search for more oil and build new refineries MAYBE just MAYBE they wouldn't have such a big profit that the liberals squeal about.
Chavez is a communist and a dictator.

So what exactly are you going to do about it??
Are you going to stop driving. Owning and driving a car is not a right it is a privilege and if you don't want to pay what it cost to engage in the activity of driving, get bike. It's so exhausting having to listen to people piss and moan about gas prices to each other as they drive their car by them selves, while talking on their cellphones about it to their friends.
Oh and I forgot, if our government Rep and Dems alike really cared about helping people with gas prices why don't they cut taxes on the gas so the oil companies could lower prices.
Oil companies make 10 cents on every gallon, do the math on how much our government makes on that gallon, and this is since 1977 so Reps and Dems are guilty.

I don't have the exact numbers in front of me, but I know they are out there, Do you think that gas is the only thing that has increased in price since slick willy was in office, economics is a ***** huh?

I am discusted with these companys making billions of dollars and their CEO's getting billion dollar retirement plans. I dont blame any particular person but there is somthing definatly wrong with whats going on in the oil market. Companys make billions of dollars but cannot pay anyone to make sure their pipelines are maintaned properly. Now that is just BS

They were quick to call it Operation Iraqi Freedom after that got out.
