I think D makes the most sense.
I think you can rule out A or C, because how long the population has been in that region would not make such a big impact.
I think B is unlikely because two distinct populations usually do not just share and divide equally and just stay the same size.

D for sure, it is called competitive exclusion, and is actually one of the theories for island evolution, especially in Jamaica and the tine surrounding island chains.
