Fingernails can show signs of malnutrition or even poisoning. The dips, grooves, and white marks can show what kind of stresses your body is going through to someone experienced in looking for them. I would think it would only show conditions at least a week old because of how slow nails can grow. They may also check your eyes.

Because finger and toenails give a good indication of many deficiencies like calcium and zinc. If a person uses drugs like heroin this will also show on their fingernails. Heart ailments can also be spotted by looking at the fingernails

Lines and ridges in the nails is a sign of vitamin deficiency.

The color and condition of your nails can tell a dr. alot about
your blood and oxygen etc.
