The votes are pretty good as far as they go, but let's not forget the great Sam Peckinpah; The Wild Bunch, Pat Garret and Billy the Kid, The Ballad of Cable Hogue and Ride the High Country and a couple of great Elmore Leonard stories that made it to the screen; Hombre and Valdez is Coming. I could go on, but it is a fairly subjective question.

I love Pale Rider! Clint Eastwood is brilliant as a preacher. And True Grit. John Wayne shows a real gentle side to a very determined, but naive female.
