All over everyone's skin is a layer of bacteria that live there all the time and even after a shower most are still there. When we sweat the bacteria use the minerals and liquid as food, as they metabolize all of the sweat they have to get rid of their waste products. It is their waste products that smell bad. For most people this is very normal and taking a shower will get rid of the smell and the extra bacteria but for others sweating is a serious problem. Some people don't sweat much or at all those people usually don't have much body oder either.

Sweat is rich in nutrients for certain bacteria. They will,
pretty quickly, grow and multiply and release the chemicals
that you associate with body odor.
Sweat itself doesn't really smell like much. Give it a second
on the skin, though, and the bacteria scream LUNCH!
Presumably, some people have more of this bacteria waiting
around to be fed than others.
That is, if you are very very clean when you start to exercize,
it will probably take you a little longer to smell than if you
are covered with these cells.
However, given time, all sweat will smell.

I think it's a matter of diet. The Viet Cong reported they could smell Americans in the jungles, and they thought it was because the Americans ate red meat, whereas the Vietnamese didn't. Maybe the sweat smell in on the same principle.

It all goes back to the Cave Man Era. If they didn't smell when they sweat, their family members would not be able to find them.

Ok, so if someone sweats and it dries immediately there is no smell. If someone sweats and their skin remains moist then you have musk.
