I think Snape is a complex character. There have been hints with many Harry Potter fans that he liked Lily Evans because she was a very caring person. Even Lupin said that to Harry when they talked one day in the third book of the series when Harry couldn't go to town with the others on a Saturday trip. Lily stood up for Snape when James was teasing Snape badly in front of others, and it might have been Snape's voice Harry heard when Voldermort came to the Potter's hiding place to kill them. Why do I say that there is question that James wasn't in the house when Voldermort came to murder them so that's here is another question Is James a Death Eater or a is he a coward we will have to find that all out in book seven. Why do I say that about James is because Snape told Harry that I am not a Coward and never call me that. So it's a wait and see game just what type of person Snape but to be a good double agent you have to be a complex person and a good actor. Which is what Snape is.

I have no doubt that it will come out in the end that what Snape did, he had to do. Furthermore, I believe it was done with Dumbledore's full understanding and approval.
It seems that Rowling is setting Snape up to be one of those "misunderstood heroes." The one and only reason that I believe in Snape's goodness is Dumbledore's unwavering support for him. Dumbledore certainly wasn't omniscient, but he was absolutely good, and the wisest and most powerful wizard of his age. It would be inconsistent with his character - and with the underlying philosophy of the books - for Dumbledore to be so close to an evil person for so many years and be completely deceived by him.

Snape is just Snape. I really hoped he would be good in the end, but I have a really hard time believing that after what he did in the last book. :(

Snape is definitely good :-) And the bravest and most loyal to Dumbledore. He will have to die I think, but before he dies in the last volume of the series, Harry has to get to know that he is on the right side, as he was always, since we know him.
DD's death was planned. He did not want to do it, DD forced him to, because he knew that's the way t has to happen. Remember their argument, that Hagrid heard near the forest.
Snape is one of my favourite characters.

I think the revelation of Snape's true loyalties will be one of the biggest surprises in the final book. If you read between the lines in book 6, some things will catch your eye and really make you think.

I think he's complicated, but he really wants to renounce his evil past and be good. He's stepped up and saved Harry, who he doesn't even really like, too many times to be a real bad guy.
I think he'll redeem himself in a big way before the series is over. We don't have all the facts yet about Dumbledore's murder.

It's hard to tell. I like to think he is good, and he did what he did because Dumbledore allowed it. It's clear Harry has to be on his own in the end, and things had to end in Book 6 the way they did.

i think he is still trying to decide...i can't decide quite yet, but after what he did to dumbledore, it's hard to believe he could be good...but if he hadn't made the unbreakable promise with bellatrix and narcissa, it would have been clear that he wasn't really on voldemort's side. i think he will probably turn out to be good, just because jk made him look bad in 6.
i like your avatar, by the way...with the pink hair...very clever, tonks.

Evil...I mean come on! He killed the guy who helped him through all those years and stood up for him when people would say [and those people were obviously right] that he was a death eater and would betray Dumbledore.
