I work in a room full of women but worry that any physical contact may be taken the wrong way. If you are friends with colleagues, is this type of physical contact OK, as long as it is not overtly sexual in nature?

Dont mean anything sexual, just stuff like hand on the shoulder to get their attention, not being bothered if any physical contact happens. Dont mean I want to go round groping people. I am friends with all of them and known them for several years, and they feel comfortable enough if they initiate any contact. Just wondered if it would be OK to reciprocate.

Well if you want physical contact with female workers, there is no good way to put that unless you are the bouncer on a strip club... then you should invite me...
The other option is if you work at West Corporation in Saanich, BC, Canada and then physical contact is always ok. People only gets fired there for not having sex with co workers and supervisors...
You should know when physical contact is allowed. People don't hug co workers or shake hands all the time. So that only leaves you with bad physical contact... remember: you female co-workers don't come to work to be touched, they come to work, well: to work. You should consider thinking more about becoming their friend than actually touching them...

What kind of physical contact are you talking about? It depends on the situation I guess. Most of my friends are male so I'm used to lots of hugs and pats on the arm and stuff from them so I wouldn't necessarily think someone was trying it on if they did that, but if you were groping my thigh or buttocks or something then I probably would be offended.

No way. Do not get yourself into trouble by having even the slightest physical contact with your female co-workers. Always play it safe at work and be friendly, but not too close. "Sexual nature?" You may not think contact is of a sexual nature but your co-workers may think it is.

I'm not a touchy feely person, so I would not welcome a male coworker touching me in any way. What touches exactly are you talking about? If you haven't seen a male coworker in a while, and they give you a hug, that's one thing. But if a male coworker touches my hand, touches the small of my back, etc, OF COURSE I'm going to think he is up to something - WHY ELSE would you be doing it? Would you touch one of your male coworkers like that? I think it is safe to say that if you wouldn't do it to a male coworker, you shouldn't do it to a female coworker.

i assume it somewhat relies upon. generally its the ladies that want extra actual touch and its the adult men that dont. yet unquestionably everyone seems to be distinctive and human beings on occasion want that actual touch, that heat temperature and closeness to experience emotionally on the brink of our companion.

No way. It is always open to be interpreted the wrong way.

Even if nothing is said you could have a reputation as a bit of a groper. No thanks!

depends, if you are grabbing her butt, then ya, but grabbing her arm or the like....no. some women get too up on themselves and get offended at everything, though.
