I don't feel that way. I have a 1100 sq ft house, no basement, no garage. I keep the thermostat at 82 during the day when we are not home and when we sleep, and 80 in the evenings and weekends when we are home. And, we have a fan blowing on us in the room we are in. My electric bill was only $50 for the past month, and we had many days in the 100's and very little rain. My gas bill was only $12.00 for heating water.
Now when winter hits, I do feel taken advantage of. We sit in warm clothing, sometimes with a blanket, and pay $80 to $100.

My bill is not as high as some of the people on here, but it is much higher than it should be. With only me and my husband using electricity in and efficacy two bedroom town home my bill is way too high. We even do things to conserve energy and we get billed the same. The company we used in our old house billed us by the amount of electric we used each month. The one we have to use now at this new house charges us an average amount. We pay more when we use less, and we pay less when we use more. They say at the end of the year it all evens out. I say it's bull crap. And depending on what neighborhood you live in you can be charged more. My sister in law lives in a very nice middle upper class neighborhood. She is hardly ever home never uses much electric or gas, and her bill is almost three times as much as mine. It's rape I tell you. Same thing for gas prices. America is raping us over and over again.

Of course we're getting ripped off. Their profits soar every year.

$195 a month average so far, sad part is that I've used much less than last year, even says so on the statement.

mine have been about $100, sometimes $115 a month and that's without an air conditioner. i've got fans running all the time but if i didn't, it would be torture in my apartment.
