If a teen worked in either of those industries, they'd learn to have compassion and patience...not arrogance. I hate to see grown people treating cashiers and waitstaff so nastily. Many of these workers are paying their way through college and will be future doctors, teachers or other members contributing to society. Agree?

Yes, I agree. In fact, any job or other experience that would enable people to experience life from the other's viewpoint--to be in the other's shoes--would go a long way in teaching patience, humility and kindness. The importance of 'please' and 'thank you.'

Yes. Unless you've worked in a customer service position directly with people like that on a daily basis people just can't understand what it's like.

I absolutely agree. I have two friends that I hate to eat out with. It's obvious they have never had to work for tips or be friendly to jerks(like them) just to earn money. For those of us who have - we tend to be a little more patient/humble with other servers, etc.

Perhaps as it's people-oriented such as the social and educational services.
