Flush your internet files, your cookies, download an antispyware program, use it to scan for spyware and delete any that is found. Keep an active subsription with an Internet Security Suite, but don't use one from Norton or Symantic as they have really poor business practices.

Use a new free scan by Microsoft called the Live Safety Scan at:

http://safety.live.com/site

Be careful using the Registry scan. It can delete viable keys which are needed for installiing critical and security updates for your Microsoft Office Programs. I suggest you don't use this feature if you don't have much experiance with the registry. Instead install and use CCleaner which you can find and download for free at:

http://www.ccleaner.com

Download instructions for use (very easy to use!) at:

http://www.ccleaner.com/help/tour5.asp

Print out the instructions. There are five or six pages with Screen shots on how the program graphical interface looks.

Once you download it, open it and install it on your system. Then follow the instructions for use. It is great to use after removing programs from your system as the Add/Remove program applet often leaves behind broken/orphaned files, keys, shortcuts etc.

Check your RAM. If you are fully loaded get rid of non-essential files, photos, music, etc to take back needed RAM. When a system is low on unused RAM it drastically slows a system down.

Then Defragment your system. Go into Start-All Programs-Accessories-System Tools-Disk Defragmenter. Follow the Wizards instructions, very easy to do. While you are Defragmenting your Drive, go ahead and do a Disk Clean Up as well. Do the Disk Cleanup first as this will get rid of uneeded files. You find the Disk Cleanup Tool the same place as the Disk Defragmenter. Just follow the Wizard, then check the recommended items for deletion to make sure it is not deleting stuff you want. Usually you won't keep any of it, I rarely do.

You can get a free Spyware and Adware program at the Microsoft Downloads page.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/Search.aspx?displaylang=en

It is called Windows Defender and is very good.

So, just Disk Cleanup, Defragment, install and use Windows Defender, Install and use a good Internet Security Suite which gets daily updates. This should help free up memory, clean out uneeded files (You would be surprised how many internet sites are in your cache, each time you go to one it is downloadied to your cache for easy retreaval when you wish to visit it again, and this will fill up Disk Space quickly especially if you are low on Hard Drive space).

You can find free internet security suites online, just google for them and you will find them easiy enough, if you can't afford to buy one. I recommend Panda if you can afford to buy one. It is super and very strong. Has not let me down yet.
