It seems that when the word "masturbation" is uttered, people usually think of guys. Why is it so taboo to think that a girl would masturbate?

I believe this social taboo is founded in the history of masturbation and sex toys for women.
Female-hysteria was a medical condition about 100 years ago that was induced by our hormones and had to be treated by Drs who would use a manual manipulation method (masturbation) to "calm" the patient. It was only after the Drs got tired of using their fingers so much that dildos and vibrators were invented to help them in their endeavors to "heal" their "hysteric" patients.
Plus you cant forget about good ol' religion - if its not for procreation its not for you!
I think we have progressed to a point where it is more ok to talk about it now....but it is still not discussed NEARLY as much as male masturbation and that may just be because men tend to do it more.

Because like all things, men like to brag about what they do whether anyone wants to hear it or not. More testosterone-laden crap from their anals.
Women masturbate too, it's no secret, it just isn't something we tend to have casual conversations about. Or, any conversations about, usually.

I don't think it is. But guys do usually scratch themselves in public more than chicks, so, I guess that is why it makes us figure that it is only something men would do.

none of the chicks i know think that way. i've seen all there vibrators, and had long discusions about it for 2 reasons, give me something to think about when i'm takin care of myself, and to get some tips on pleasuring women.
