When they freeze up, that typically means they are low on freon. Have it checked by an A/C repairman.

my window unit used to freeze up too... it was because the filter was damp from high humidity,
remove the cover & the filter, using the brush attachment gently vaccum the dust out of the coils, vaccum the filter and the cover, make sure the filter does not contact the coils, and get a dessicant ( like damp rid) or a dehumidifier for the room with the ac unit. if the filter was washed in water... that could also cause the freeze up. buy a new filter & always vaccum it,never wash it with water.

It is freezing up because it is too small of a unit for the area you are trying to cool. I will run and run and not cycle, then freeze. An air conditioner needs to cycle for it to work properly!

You can go to an appliance parts place and get some stuff that cleans the coils out , you know those aluminum fins . You will have to remove the unit to clean it . Take it to a car wash and spray out the coils with those high pressure sprayers .

if it is below 20 degrees don't run it. it is probably low on freon. make sure the filter is clean!
