Hack is right. When you have a block, it's also good to play either classical or jazz music...it has to have no words...because it works the right side of your brain, which is the creative side. Just get up, put on the music, wash some clothes, dishes or something else mindless, and then go back to it. Music WITH words will not help your writer's block. I learned this little trick in Psychology class, and it's worked wonders for me ever since.

No writer should get writers block, then you are not a writer.
Writer can take time off from writing, but a writer is a person with an imagination that can never be blocked.
There is so many ideas out there that can be complety random, a writer sees these ideas, other people dont.
When you leave a project and do not have a plan for that project you are just wasting time.
That why a writer cant get blocked.
Good luck duck.

Believe me, i've been there, and everyone around me can tell you that it is not cool when i get writer's block. Try not to force anything, but if you work through it, the world seems to come back into wack. Try to use your own experiences and everything around you as inspiration. Look for the peace in yourself and the complexities of everyday human activity to give you a hint of an idea and then let imagination and creativity do the rest.
Good Luck!

Aw, a writer's block for nonfiction than in fiction. I'm in the same boat. What's your best bet is to look to the current news you see on TV.
It could be sports. If there's any local events in your area, write about it. For practice, try writing essays and letters to the editors.Start small and work your way up to bigger things. Get Writer's Market for a listings of markets, that gives tips to beginners on getting started, like fillers and column/department sections, as of for newspapers. Check the writer's guidelines if they have websites, or email them, if they don't. Contact your local newspaper editor for any ideas that they want to pitch and assign to you. For example, I watched the X-Games on TV, and saw Travis Pastrana did a double backflip, this weekend. So I wrote about it for an online ezine to publish the content (and my first bit of clips.) Hope this helps.

I've been in the same field now for about ten years. What works for me is bringing a notepad to a busy place. A shopping mall or market place is good. Then get yourself a tea or coffee, sit on a bench and people watch. Try to clear your mind of what you are trying to accomplish, and concentrate on what other people might be thinking. Think of things like where they might have been, where they're going, what they might be doing later. Then come back to what you were trying to write, and see if any of it can relate.

Check out "The Artists Way" by Julia Cameron. Her "morning pages" method has helped me a lot in this area. Also useful- a long, thoughtful walk. Somehow when the feet are moving it frees the brain.

Go outside, do things and different activities and soon ideas will be popping in your head just from using life as your jumping stone.
Good Luck.

Take a long walk or a ride. That really helps. Free your mind of all the BS.

i usually go read a book ...it exercises my brain back into the literary process and using my imagination...STAY away from television which dulls the senses...if all else fails go outside and intereact with people (who like to talk alot or debate) anything mentally stimulating.
