All that is known is that the So. Cal. section of the San Andreas fault is overdue for a major earthquake. I don't think seismologists would suggest that earthquakes in Peru or Alaska would have a direct impact on this section of the San Andreas.

I have read that they expect it sometime within the next couple of centuries. Scary thought.
