My husband refs basketball so he gets really seaty. I wash his shirt every time after he works, but it still smells even after washing and drying with a fragrant dryer sheet. The shirt is polyester...all his other shirts that aren't polyester come out fine. The smell just doesn't seem to want to leave the ref shirt. I know baking soda is good for removing odors I'm just not sure if you can use it in the laundry and how much to use. Also, if you have any other suggestions that would be great! Thanks!

Yes, Baking Soda! My husband was a commercial fisherman for years. You want to smell something bad. It's fishing close. Wash his cloths separately and use Baking Soda along with your detergent. It really helps a lot! Good Luck!

WELL FIRST OF ALL ONCE THE SHIRTS ARE DRYED IN A CLOTHES DRYER WHAT EVEN STAINS ORDERS ETC DONT ACTUALLY GET REMOVED THEY BASICALLY get baked right in , yes u can place baking soda in the wash u can place 1/4 cups or more to the laundry , it will also help soften the water , place the baking soda in the washer as u fill it with water along with the detergent u use regularly place the shirt in the washer befor e u put any other items in the washer as it fills this will allow it to somewhat presoak , wash and rince as usual , if possible to not dry in the dryer , hang it up on a clothes line or even on a hanget in the house and place on a planter hook ( those hooks that pepole put in the ceilings to hang ther e hanging plants , another thing u can do is when hubby comes home have him take off the shirt and soak it in a pail of water with about a third less of your laundry soap , and soak for an hour then wash like usual , another thing u can do is when u rince your clothes place about a cup of clear distilled white vinager in the rince water rince , then re rince , it may take some time but it its worth the time when u loose the smell , alot of pepole will use vinager in there rince water when the use cloth diapers to eliminate orders etc , another thing is get scented laundry soap and get the same scent in your liquid fabric softner and dryer sheets , another thing fabreeze is now offering a addetive , that eliminates orders in your wash that u add to your washer along with your regular detergent

You could use a bit of baking soda. Try soaking the shirt for a few minutes in the wash. Just open your machine up mid cycle and let it soak. You could also try using a little bit of DRY dishwashing detergent in your wash. My husband is a welder/fitter and he gets FILTHY and smelly throughout the day. Dishwashing detergent works wonders for removing stains and smells. Just remember, it must be DRY.

Another thing to aid in ridding the smell is to not only use the sheet fabric softener but also use a liquid in the wash for a little bit of extra smell good!

P.S. If you do use baking soda, dissolve it first in some warm water before adding it or you could have a mess.

Soak the shirt in Baking soda and vinegar for an hour then wash.I have also use dawn dish soap for this.it could be that the shirts have alot of body oils and thats why the smell is in there. Just soak it for an hour then wash.
It is safe to use baking soda in the wash, but if it smells really bad I would soak it before washing it. Also Gain laundry detergent is great. it will leave cloths smelling fresh for days

Good Luck

Yes, it can. I have used 1/4 cup per wash and it makes a difference.
There is a detergent that is made by Arm and Hammar, the makers of baking soda that works good too.

Yes, you can. In fact there is Arm & Hammer Laundy detergent that has baking soda in it. Of course, what I do is just add a cup full to a load and let it soak for about a half hour to an hour before letting the cycle finish. Works GREAT!!!

White vinegar, about a cup or so with the wash, and regular detergent should do the trick. Baking soda could be applied before as a paste for tough stains but I would not recommend adding a lot of it to the wash, as it clumps and does not always dissolve completely in water.
