Given that hard disks keep getting bigger it seems there will be a day when we can put every CD ever made (assuming a CD is 700 mb) on one hard drive. What I am not sure is how many albums there are in the world (I can assume 1 million) and how quickly hard drives will get bigger and whether they will run into problems associated with Moore's law (?) - doesnt that say that computer chips cant get any smaller after about 2015?

Another idea is how long before every film ever made can be stored (assuming each DVD is around 8Gb).

Ok edit: 16 years ago I got a 40mb hard drive for my amiga for about 100 pounds. Today the average hard disk is around 250gb for 50 pounds. So in 16 years the size went up over 6000 times. If a CD is 700mb I can store 360 on my 250gb hard disk.

So take another 16 years and maybe I could have 360x6000 CDs = 2.2million. Ive no idea how many CDs there are in thew world but maybe in 20 years it could be possible. But I dunno how big/small disks can get without getting problems.

It seems inevitable that nanotechnology will advance, probably once bio-components are used. Computers at the end of this century will cease to be computers as we understand them now and will probably meld with other technologies.

I love this question. At least you are looking to the future.

If you are young, under 30, it is not too far away my friend.

Have fun.
