if we can travel say at the speed of light then we will be able to travel to more galaxies. Is there any reserach going on in this issue?

We have made great advances in the last century. We have gone from horses to the space shuttle. But, the speed of light is very fast. It is not conceivable that we could ever make anything that could go that fast. First, we have to make something that can produce the propulsion great enough. (such as anti-matter drive and etc.) Then, we have to make it so the acceleration doesn't kill us. (with inertial cancelors and such) And then we have to make a craft that can withstand those speeds. Also, Einstein theorized that an objects mass increases as it approaches the speed of light and he stated that it is possible that at the speed of light an objects mass could be infinite. This would pose a big problem!

Right now it is possible for us to obtain great speeds. The Helios II can go roughly 185,000 MPH after slingshotting around planets ofcourse. This still is only a fraction of the speed of light and the Helios II is an unmanned space craft.

There is a great deal of research on the subject by both NASA and prestigious universities, but again it is highly unlikely we will ever obtain the speed of light.

Another thing. If we were to travel to other galaxies, we would have to travel at speeds far greater than the speed of light. The nearest star other than the sun is 4 light years away! It would take you thousands of years just to get to the edge of our own galaxy traveling at the speed of light.

It will be many hundreds of years before we may even approach this. It will require a complete rethinking of the laws of physics, because even the most revolutionary offshoots of string theory and M theory still utilize relativity, which still places a limit on speed at the speed of light (and even approaching it has effects that are undesirable -- time dilation, Lorentz contraction, even gaining massive amounts of mass) It's simply not physically possible to do at the present time, until we discover a way around the physical laws of the universe.

By the way, why ask this in the social sciences section?

No merchandise with a non-0 relax mass can holiday on the speed of light, and that contains neutrinos. The proscribing speed of light isn't a technological difficulty to be triumph over with the help of technology. truly, that's no longer a difficulty in any respect, that's merely the way our universe works. besides the undeniable fact that, even on your lifetime we would discover the chemical signatures of existence on different planets, yet which will be carried out with telescopes, no longer with area ships. Conceivably, we may some day construct area ships wearing synthetic intelligence that could holiday 1000's of years to achieve different stars.

Ummm,

Travel to other galaxies requires faster the light travel.

The nearest galaxy to our solar system is like 25000 light years.

At the speed of light this would take 25000 years.

A pretty long time.

If you want to travel faster then light, but at a margin that would allow you to get another galaxy in the lifetime of even a further evolved gentically engineered human then we talking a few thousand years, probably more.

well, maybe but the current laws of physics say we cant travel past light speed, anyway there is a theorectical particle called a tachyon that supposedly travels faster then light, haha but what if we crashed into something? and how in hell would we stop?

we cant travel the speed of light..... we would turn to energy.... we wouldnt be alive lmao.... i dont think there is any technology that will change science.

about 150-200 years from now we should have the technology if we dont destroy ourselves and the planet first.
