Palm is a pretty good brand, and you can get a foldable wireless (IR) keyboard for any new palm.
The Z22 is cheap, but the screen is pixelated and hard to read from a distance. It has the basic notes and organizer package
The E2 is moderately priced. It still has a tiny screen, but it's not that pixelated. It will also tie you over for a media player.
The TX is expensive, but you can surf the web over WiFi on it, enough memory, and it has a really nice screen.
The LifeDrive is ludicrously expensive (Get a cheapo laptop instead!), but you can record stuff on it, and it's got a huge amount of memory.
If you want a smartphone, try a Treo.
The 650 is a good start. It's basically an E2 with a smartphone and a strange built-in keyboard and camera. You can still use the optional foldable one.
The 700P is like a LifeDrive with a smaller screen and much less memory with a smartphone and that same strange keyboard, but an OK camera's on it now.
The 700W runs Windows Mobile instead of Palm OS, and is pretty much otherwise the same as a 700P

I used a dell with a foldable keyboard. It was like a laptop with word and excel. Great choice for student. Plus you can go online if your campus has wireless.
