Are You an American Liberal?
If you have paid any attention at all to politics over the last couple of decades, you know that Republican politicians have spent an entire generation attacking liberals. However, unless you were paying close attention, you probably did not notice that those Republican politicians never bothered to actually define what a liberal is. They just attacked liberals, confident that the American people would follow along with their rhetorical sleight of hand, and not ask the question: "What is a liberal, anyway, and how come you spend so much time attacking them?"

Now, with the Republican Party in control of all three branches of the federal government, Americans are realizing how destructive the right wing Republican agenda is. So, Americans are beginning to question the partisan propaganda that has come from Republican politicians and their insider army of right wing political consultants. Americans are finally starting to ask themselves, "Am I one of those liberals that the Republicans keep talking about?"

Are you? Could you be an American liberal? The chances are pretty good that you are. After all, the Republicans say that everyone who doesn't agree with their radical right wing agenda is a liberal. But, it's best to be sure, so we have assembled the following list of questions so that you can test yourself to see if you really are an American liberal.

No, it's a cure for one. Schizophrenics often make that mistake, confusing the cure for the debilitating illness that they embrace. Please, stay on your Meds.

Like all paranoid schizophrenics, you have a deeply-rooted hate for those who try to help you. You confuse them with authority figures because you were probably abused by your very first authority figures, your parents and that uncle nobody ever talks about. Don't worry. It was not your fault. You were a good boy.

I have bad news for you. You are the one operating under a delusion, not the rest of the world. The good news is it's a common delusion these days, and it's called "Subjugation of ultra-rigid conservative values by neo-nazi influences." There is a cure for this, but it will not be available until January of 2009, sooner if Impeachment Proceedings poot forth and bear fruition.

In the meantime, there are reports of some success in combating this widespread mass delusion. These are some painful steps to recovery, but they must be done if there is to be any hope for the afflicted.

1.) Turn off "FOX-News."
2.) Accept that John Wayne is dead.
3.) When you see that guy who pretends he is our president, picture him speaking in his underwear. His power over you will vanish soon after. See him for the lunatic that he is.
4.) Realize that Anne Coulter is terminally insane.
5.) Trade in your Ford Explorer for a GM truck and quit listening to Country Music. Except for the Dixie Chicks. And live dangerously. Try making a green light once in awhile, or driving over forty mph on a state highway.
6.) It's alright to hate Dick Cheney. Even Dick Cheney hates Dick Cheney. That's why his heart commits suicide all the time.
7.) You project the worst characteristics of yourself and your party onto others. This is called "projection" or "transference." That's why you still blame Bill Clinton, Al Gore, and Jimmy Carter for the mistakes that your party made yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Accept that these people are gone, and they have been for many, many years. Accept responsibility for your own party's actions and inactions. This is the opening move towards recovery.
8.) The next time you're really, really angry, try screaming "SH!T" instead of "POOPIE!" Take my word for it. It really does make you feel better.
9.) A lot of your hostility comes from having to repress your inner self by agreeing with a certain party, no matter how insane the policy or how deceitful the excuse or pretext. The next time, under your breath, just whisper "bullsh!t" silently to yourself. When you can finally say it aloud and in public, you're well on the road to mental health.

There is hope. Conservatism is a disease, but one that can be cured by good guilt-free sleep and a healthy diet without fifty rations a day of pure BS. There is hope for you. You just have to be sick and tired of being sick and tired.

Enough with the Generalizations already. Liberalism was originally just a party representing a social class.
I am a liberal, I am middle/upper lower class, I believe in the war efforts, and I don't believe in alot or the things the Ultra Liberals believe in. Just because you belong to one party or the other doesn't mean you can't think for yourself and form your own opinions.
My husband is not only a conservative, but fighting in Iraq. Even as a liberal, I support him and all of the efforts. You really cannot paint with such a broad stroke. How does that make us any worse then the right wingers?

Liberalism - from a Californian perspective - is simply an ideology formed by a lack of traditional morals, ethics and values. You know, like gay marriage (how does this help shape a better society?) or, more importantly, government programs for the masses. It is based on seemingly socialist/communist ideas - that the state need more tax payer money for social programs that take care of people rather than help them move forward and get better jobs, while actually crippling the economy of those who do work and spend more and more money on these bogus programs - yet don't have enough money to provide themselves the same "perks"... an example would be like the hundreds of thousands who rely on taxpayer paid for medical insurance while the rest of us either can't afford or have measly insurance... just one of many ideas. Although I've heard that the tone of Liberals in other states is different than ours.

In general, I've come to believe the following:
Liberals think society can't think/provide for itself, so they should think/provide for the nation
Conservatives think society has a responsibility to make/choose their lot in life and live with the consequences.

Sort of two extremes. That is why most people tend to fall in the middle - you know, use common sense - something that seems not to be readily available in the upper echelons of government.

I'd have to say no. However, Neo conservatism seems very cult based in the way that it's members seem brainwashed to the point of having no real mind of their own. That could be seen as an addiction in a way. Though worse than being hooked up on crack.

Yes, liberalism is definitely a mental disorder. Like all other mental disorders, they must be treated with psychological analysis, re-education, conservative propaganda, Biblical philosophy, conservative/liberal cross-examination, and most importantly....psychological meditation!! All of these things might help you out later on in your lifetime. Well anyhoo, you got to look a few things over before you might jump to the other side. You know what one wise man once said, "Look before you leap!".

The only mental disorder I see here is being closed minded. "You are with us or you are against us" scare tactics. I have met both close minded liberals and conservatives, both are the bane of existence. Being liberal is not a crime, and it is a necessity given the current state of our country. You've had your turn, now let the left try. It sure can't get any worse.

You call yourself "Heroic Liberal" and you're asking this question? Seems to me that YOU might have a mental disorder. It scares me to think that those "Bushites" actually believe anything that comes out of his mouth. I mean seriously, does God talk to you too and tell you that Iran is an axis of evil? I think you need some serious help Mr. Heroic Liberal.
